MANAGING ATTORNEY

A native Floridian, Alex Costopoulos grew up in Daytona Beach’s hospitality industry.  Following graduation, he attended the University of Florida on a National Merit Scholarship.  He received his B.A. in History graduating with honors in 1993.  He then attended the University of Florida College of Law on a Law Center Scholarship receiving his J.D. in 1996; again graduating with honors and receiving awards for Constitutional Law and for Political and Civil Rights.

Mr. Costopoulos moved to Orlando where he developed his litigation skills as an aggressive young Assistant State Attorney.  In three and a half years, he litigated over thirty-five jury trials and over twenty-five non-jury trials.

In 2001, Mr. Costopoulos left the State Attorney’s Office and chose to focus his practice on civil litigation emphasizing community association law, construction, corporate, and contract matters.  He represented many HOAs, condos, co-ops, and timeshares.

While in private practice, he worked for several community associations helping them successfully terminate and replace their management companies and handle their litigation needs including developer and vendor litigation, and regulatory investigations.  He also assisted with interpretation and amendment of governing documents, collection efforts including liens and foreclosures, preparation of opinion letters, vendor contract review, re-allocation of reserve funds, and proper imposition of special assessments.  He developed forms for his clients including deeds, contracts, and instructions for owners, educational and training materials for owners and employees, association governance documents including rules changes, notices, agendas, ballots, proxies, corporate resolutions, and minutes, regulatory matters including liquor license changes, amenities upgrades, expansion and capital upgrades, MRTA, DBPR, and ADA compliance.

Seeing a growing need among community associations for experienced legal assistance, Mr. Costopoulos founded Sunstone Law, P.A.
